Holiday Inn Express London – Stratford, an IHG Hotel review

Stayed here last night (18/03/24) after watching ABBA Voyage. Great Show FYI.
The hotel is clean and tidy and in a great location for Westfield Shopping Centre and ABBA Voyage.
Having recently stayed in a Travel Lodge of which there is one next to The Holiday Inn, I would say the Holiday Inn is far superior.
Our room was well set out, very spacious and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was busy and you’re crammed in a bit, but it was fine and not the reason we booked.
Would recommend.

Lovely hotel with superb staff.
I had breakfast with them and recommended the delicious buttery croissants from self service breakfast bar.
Limited menu choice but perfectly suited if you are not a fussy eater.
Bar is open until very late.
Walking distance from station

Our stay at Holiday Inn Express Stratford London was a mixed bag of impressions. While the entrance, reception, and waiting area impressed with aesthetic appeal, the overall room cleanliness left much to be desired.

Upon checking in, we were disappointed to find the toilet seat had a few pubic hairs and strands of hair. Immediately, we informed the reception, and we were swiftly allocated a new room. While I was downstairs addressing the issue with the reception, the cleaning staff approached my partner regarding the dirty toilet. They have informed that it must have been used by someone after it was cleaned, and the staff simply wiped off the toilet seat with a cloth she had on her hand.

Additionally, the replacement room had a lingering smell, and I noticed consistent noise from a nearby supply room, detracting from the comfort of our stay.

The best thing was the first day’s breakfast. The bacon, hash browns, and sausages were warm, well-presented, and thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately, the standard dropped on the second day, with the hot food served cold and some items in short supply, taking too long to replenish. Furthermore, we noticed cleanliness issues with the cereal bowls and plates.

While appreciating the effort of the breakfast team, we wish they offered a variety of cooked eggs, perhaps upon request, such as sunny side up or poached, instead of only offering scrambled eggs.

We were there to see Abba Voyage show.
Car Parking – hotel says limited parking available – £20 for 24 hrs – there are about 7 car parking spaces so if you have a car I would say do not depend on being able to park here. We parked at Westfield Shopping B which is a 10 – 15 minute walk from hotel and much better huge car park, although if parking there – consider Hyatt Regency/House which can be accessed from this car park.
Rooms – typical for London – on the small side but clean and comfortable with a provided room safe.
Breakfast – food was Ok with good choices but extremely busy and hard to get a table.
Location – very good for Abba Arena – 10 minute walk.

I stayed here for a quick trip to London. I really enjoyed this hotel, the breakfast was great considering the cost of this hotel (eggs, bacon, croissants, toast, beans, yogurt, oats, selection of jams, cereals). They also offered to go cups for coffee. It is about a 10 minute walk from Stratford tube station. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés, grocery stores nearby (all within a 10 minute walking distance). I would recommend this place to anyone visiting London.

There is also a really big mall nearby, which has a ton of shopping available. M&S is located in the mall, and is a great grocery store for snacks. There is also a Lidl nearby.

The Abbey Tap was one of our favorite restaurants.

It was about a 30 to 40 minute ride to Central London to the main tourist attractions, however the time usually goes by pretty quickly and you get to do a lot of people watching, and just see the overall life of people in the city as you go through the different stations. Stratford tube station is great because it has different lines connecting to it, especially the Elizabeth line, which will get you almost anywhere you want to go.

We did a day trip to Paris and we called an Uber to take us to Saint Pasas and it was about $40 for an UberXL at 6am.

Exiting the tube and walking to the hotel, we never felt unsafe, even late at night.
