Original Review: The room and hotel itself were fine. During our stay there were multiple repeated fire alarms. There was very poor communication from staff, resulting in having to descend and ascend from our room to the building exterior 3 separate times. The staff initially told everyone it was just a false alarm and to return to the room. After many more alarms and confusion they decided on evacuating the whole hotel. The only way they informed guests of the evacuation was from a single man in the lobby speaking into a megaphone. To hear the megaphone you had to leave your room and walk out to the walkway over the lobby. There was absolutely no communication with the rooms directly. When we were allowed to re-enter the hotel there was no communication, guidance, or apologies from the staff. When we finally settled back in bed, the alarm went off again. This stay resulted in very little sleep during our travelling. Would not recommend this hotel.
I decided to book a Holiday Inn because I had an early flight and they serve breakfast from 5am, but I had issues with the booking process as outlined below:
I booked directly with the hotels web site which displayed a price of £80, although when I started the booking process it displayed a charge of a few pence less (think it was £79.94, but not absolutely certain of the exact amount). I think the booking process took a few minutes as I was prompted to sign up to their loyalty scheme to qualify for that price), and I did not notice any change in the price until it had already processed a charge of £88. I was staggered to see that charge as I know that the lower price had been displayed while I was processing the reservation.
I replied to the booking confirmation asking for an explanation of the discrepancy in what they charged me, but they did not even reply to that (yes, I checked my spam folder etc.)
I asked their staff member about it when checking in, but he basically just shrugged his shoulders.
Whilst there may be a valid explanation for the change (?) I think it is pretty poor customer service to ignore my questions about it, and will not be using an IHG hotel in future unless there is no other choice. In my email I stated that I was not going to make a big issue about it as I still wanted the booking, but their lack of any response whatsoever makes me inclined to follow it up further (but don’t know what I can do – it will be their word against mine as I did not know I would have the need to take a screen dump etc at the time of making the booking, and they already have my money)
Stayed there for 6 times. Very convenient, rooms come with complimentary English breakfast.
Rooms are rather small as it is a sort of a transit hotel.
Shuttle buses or Hoppa Buses are also available to take you to other Heathrow terminals.
Prices are reasonable.
